Things Fall Apart

There seems to be an epidemic in our house:

  1. The starter on our car starts to act-up, and then the check engine light goes on
  2. My iPod decides it won’t play files over 1-hour in length
  3. The trackpad on my laptop dies, and now my wireless is acting-up

Photos from Hawaii

In order to prepare ourselves mentally and physically for the new school year (and to decompress after the wedding), Erica and I secluded ourselves for five days at Napili Kai on Maui for rest and relaxation.

Honey, we’re home!

So we’re back in NC, school is back in session and I’ll post pictures from Maui any day now…

The state of things

At work I’ve been reworking the numerous websites related to our projects. I’m glad to say the end is in sight, and most of the changes that need to be made are minor (mostly to fix IE display glitches). Here’s a sample:

I admit the NeoRef site has a rather interesting color scheme, but I kind of like it.

Next up is the trip back to Colorado for the wedding, a week in Hawaii, and then back to school.

Summer Reading List

So, I’ve finally gotten around to starting a reading list. I’ve always wanted to keep track of all the books I’ve read, but never gotten around to it. Since I just finished a stack of books I figure this is as good a time as any.

Apricot Coffee Cake

I think I need to start a list of recipes to try… Here’s the first: Apricot Coffee Cake from Chocolate & Zucchini

Fallout 3 Cometh

This is very good news indeed: Bethesda is going to make Fallout 3.

Coincidence

Yesterday I wrote about McSweeney’s and Dave Eggers. Afterwards I took the bus to the park and ride, got in my car and turned on NPR. I heard about the group One Ring Zero who play some really cool music featuring strange instruments and lyrics by various authors. One of those authors is Dave Eggers.

Temptation

Things I saw at the Bull’s Head that tempted me:

A note on McSweeney’s: The whole line of McSweeney’s products (and pretty much everything else that relates to David Eggers) smacks of literary self-indulgence and elitism, yet somehow remains utterly captivating instead of irritating (even when I don’t get it).
