- Compared to Batman Begins, this Batman is pretty slow and stiff (I bet that batsuit weighed a ton).
- I love the look of this movie: the batmobile, Gotham City, the Joker.
- Michael Keaton does a decent job of playing Bruce Wayne but can’t really pull of Batman. He’s just not enough of a presence and gets swallowed up in the suit. As Wayne he’s suitably weird and troubled, almost autistic in his inability to interact with the world.
- The Joker is one of the best villains ever in a comic moviem Jack Nicholson did a great job imbuing him with just the right amount of homicidal insanity.
- I love Michael Gough as Alfred.
- I re-watched this movie not long after seeing Batman Begins (BB), and it didn’t quite live up to my memories. It feels rather plodding and sedate compared to BB. This Batman is stiff and seems to be having a hard time moving under all the latex. What still feels right is (1) The Joker and (2) Gotham City. Burton did a great job with the atmosphere of Batman’s world, and you can see a lot of it reflected in BB. The Joker easily steals the show, and I’m curious to see what a new Joker might be like.
